Fox News host Bill O’Reilly left no doubt Monday on where he places the blame for an innocent woman’s death last week at the hands of an illegal alien in San Francisco: The city’s liberal leadership and President Obama.
“The mayor and city supervisors of San Francisco are directly responsible for the murder of Kate Steinle, and the Obama administration is complicit,” O’Reilly said during the Talking Points commentary segment of “The O’Reilly Factor,” where he also defended comments made by billionaire Donald Trump during his announcement for the presidency in June.
O’Reilly came out swinging at “the cowardice of our elected officials” in dealing with illegal immigration, citing statistics showing that Mexicans make up 71 percent of non-American citizens serving time in federal prison, and “a whopping 16 percent of all convicts serving time in federal penitentiaries.”
He said Trump was correct in his position about illegal immigration, but made a mistake by “speaking too generally about the border problem” during his campaign kickoff.
Steinle was shot to death July 3 by Francisco Sanchez, 45, a Mexican illegal immigrant who has been deported five times for criminal activities.
“San Francisco is a sanctuary city and proud of it,” O’Reilly said.
He explained that a 1996 law required the city to cooperate with federal authorities in apprehending illegal aliens, especially criminals. But in 2007, San Francisco’s then-Mayor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order refusing that cooperation.
“In 2010, the Obama administration openly said it wouldn’t punish cities that refuse to obey the 1996 law,” O’Reilly said. “Miss Steinle paid for that irresponsible and unconstitutional decision with her life.”
He called the murder and other crimes by illegal aliens “a black mark on the history of San Francisco, the most tolerant of cities.”
“Attorney General Loretta Lynch could, today, order the FBI to arrest Mayor Lee and the supervisors for violating federal law,” O’Reilly said, adding that it’s not going to happen, “because racial politics drives the law these days, which is why Mr. Trump caught so much hell.”
O’Reilly concluded h by calling on Congress to pass better laws to deal with criminal aliens, and with a chilling statement about a liberal race-obsessed culture.
The Constitution demands that the government protect Americans from foreign invaders, O’Reilly said.
“Obviously, that responsibility is not being met,” he said. “But if you point that out, as Mr. Trump did, you’re a racist.”
