Team USA wins Women’s World Cup! Joe Biden roots for wrong Team USA!

The icing on the cake for Fourth of July weekend celebrations came from the U.S. Women’s National Team when they beat Japan Sunday in Vancouver, 5-2.

Hopefully, someone told Vice President Joe Biden which team was actually playing.

The win marks USA’s women’s team third world championship — and the first since 1999. And the seven total combined goals was the highest scoring Women’s World Cup final.

Here’s Carli Lloyd’s astounding goal from the game. Lloyd scored the fastest hat trick in World Cup history — men’s or women’s.

But Lloyd wasn’t the only one to score goals. Lauren Holiday scored as did Tobin Heath.

And the fans went wild:

When Japan scored a second goal to narrow the gap, Team USA responded in kind.

This brought the score to 5-2, where it remained. The U.S. Soccer Women’s National Team tweeted:

ESPN tweeted its congratulations:

Prior to Sunday’s match, meanwhile, the vice president’s office issued a Twitter post of Biden inside the U.S. national team’s locker room — the men’s national team.

Considering the vice president’s “hands-on” approach to dealing with women in public, having him paying a visit to the women’s locker room probably wouldn’t have been a great idea anyway. But still …

He probably does by now.
