Bobby Jindal blasts Jeb Bush and a centrist GOP; ‘Let’s … FIGHT for what we believe in’

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal took aim squarely at Jeb Bush on Sunday,  accusing the former Florida governor of backing down on conservative ideas in order to look more electable.

In a Sunday radio interview with host John Catsimatidis, Jindal needled Bush, a top-tier contender for the GOP’s 2016 presidential nomination. He said Bush’s call for a more centrist GOP  is a loser for the country and a loser at the polls, The Hill reported.

“I disagree with Jeb Bush. He said we have to be willing to lose the primary to win the general election,” said Jindal, who announced his own presidential candidacy June 24.  “Let me translate: He’s saying we need to hide our conservative ideas.”

Bush made those comments in late 2014 at The Wall Street Journal CEO Council annual meeting, when he was still publicly deciding whether to run for president. He said that a Republican nominee should be willing to “lose the primary to win the general without violating your principles.”

Jindal believes that is the path to defeat.

“If we do that, we’re going to lose again,” he said. “Let’s endorse our own principles and fight for what we believe in.”

Asked why he’s running for president, Jindal explained “because I want to stop President Obama and Secretary Clinton from turning the American dream into the European nightmare.”

“We are on the path towards socialism,” he said. “It’s not too late but the hour is late.”

Jindal has been campaigning hard lately, but making little headway in getting above the noise level in a crowded GOP field.

The latest RealClearPolitics average has him in 14th place, at just 1.3 percent.
