An 85-year-old Fargo, N.D. man got perhaps the world’s shortest obituary, just like he wanted.
( Although maybe someone one-upped him with simply ‘dead’).
Douglas Legler didn’t like long obituaries full of superlatives about the person’s life and times and didn’t want one for himself, his daughter Janet Stoll told WDAY.
“He said over and over, when I die I want my obituary to just say ‘Doug Died,’ ” she said. “(Other people’s obituaries) would say ‘he was the president of this, a director of this’ and Dad would say, ‘What, couldn’t they hold down a job?’ ”
She told WDAY that her father lived a full life working as a driver for Nash Finch, vending machine repairman and he even painted farm equipment.
Legler was also a singer who placed second in a talent show and loved country music.
But none of that made it into his obituary at his request.
“He was very quick-witted, and funny,” Stoll said.
Of his obituary and the accompanying fame she said “I’m sure he’s laughing up there now.”
