The Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage inspired a Montana man to apply for a second marriage license Wednesday in an effort to “legitimize” his polygamous relationship with two women.
Nathan Collier and his two “wives” Victoria and Christine applied for the license at the Yellowstone County Courthouse in Billings on Tuesday, but were initially denied because of Montana’s ban on bigamy.
A second application from the trio is currently being reviewed by the state’s Attorney General and county litigators.
“It’s about marriage equality,” Collier told the Associated Press. “You can’t have [marriage equality] without polygamy.”
“We just want to add legal legitimacy to an already happy, strong, loving family,” he said according to local news station KRTV.
The arguments sound strangely similar to the rhetoric used by the gay-marriage crowd.
“I don’t understand why it’s looked upon and frowned upon as being obscene,” said one of the women, adding that they just want “equality” under the law.

With the Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage, many critics have warned that polygamy would be the next logical step, and social media users didn’t seem too surprised by the news coming out of Billings, Mont. As one Twitter user put it, “HERE WE GO …”
After all, it might not have its own parade, like the gay activists who took to the streets over the weekend, but polygamy is just another “unconventional” relationship. Right?
