The Clinton campaign’s video on Benghazi took spin to a new level, and Greta Van Susteren is having none of it, calling the video “dishonest” and demanding that Hillary Clinton order it removed.
The video, titled “Charade,” was posted to YouTube Wednesday and accuses Republicans of using the Benghazi Select Committee as a political tool to discredit Clinton. Featuring clips from various news shows, the video highlights an interview Van Susteren had with Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the select committee.
Fox News host Van Susteren blasted the video in a blog post. “The HRC ad – at least the portion I am in with Congressman Trey Gowdy – is dishonest,” she wrote. “It is not complete and it is intended to convey a false message.”
The ad shows Chairman Gowdy saying ‘it could be’ when I pointed out that a delay in releasing the Benghazi report could be seen as political. The editing is grossly incomplete to give a false message. What the ad NEGLECTS to include is why the delay and who is causing the delay. This is hugely significant and where the HRC campaign is being intellectually dishonest with its edit. (emphasis in original.)
Van Susteren wrote that after former Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich showed her the video, she pulled the transcripts from the interview with Gowdy.
The Clinton video shows her asking Gowdy if delaying the Benghazi report until 2016 would appear political, and Gowdy replying “It could be.”
The original interview paints a completely different picture, showing Clinton as the source of all the delays. The show transcript reads:
GOWDY: It could be. Of course, that assume the report would be critical of her. I don’t make that assumption. We’re still in the process of gathering facts. If the report is not critical of her, then she would probably want it to come out closer to the election. But it’s not going to come out in the middle of 2016. I hope it doesn’t come out in 2016, period. I hope we are done before the end of this year. And I say hope because there are certain variables that I cannot control.
VAN SUSTEREN: All right. What’s the problem? I mean, why isn’t this moving faster?
GOWDY: Documents. It is simple. It is whether or not the Department of State, the Department of Justice, the Department of Defense will honor our request for documents. Some of those requests are as old as two years old.
Van Susteren reacted angrily to what she called the “false narrative,” writing “Why does this matter? You know why this matters. You can’t cut corners like this and play loose with the truth – it is wrong for our democracy.”
Giving Clinton the benefit of the doubt, Van Susteren guessed the Democratic candidate didn’t even know about the video, but wrote “she has the power and authority to tell the campaign to take it down.”
Conservative Twitter users were a little less forgiving. You can’t expect a duck to stop quacking, so how can you expect a Clinton to stop lying?
This Hillary Clinton ad is intellectually dishonest – it edits Congressman Trey Gowdy incompletely http://t.co/zzd50VFCXN

Some tweeted that Greta may be slightly naïve if she thinks Hillary would do something honest.
@greta Are you at all surprised, Greta? No one should be. It is the way @HillaryClinton and her family live—dishonestly.
