Pop icon Courtney Love finds out Uber isn’t popular in lefty France; ‘Where are the police?’

Singer and widow to Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love, found herself in a terrifying situation today when she and her Uber driver came under attack by a mob of angry protesters in Paris.

“They’ve ambushed our car and are holding our driver hostage,” Love tweeted.

“They’re beating the cars with metal bats. This is France?? I’m safer in Baghdad.”

Violent protests erupted in cities across France where taxi drivers are striking over the Uber mobile phone app that provides users with a cheaper means of transportation that union dominated cabs.

Love’s Uber-ride was ambushed by angry cabbies shortly after she landed at the airport, according to the Daily Mail.

Uber already swept through the United States and has become a favorite transportation option for urbanites — much to the disgust of the American left. (The fellow-travelers at Salon.com had a piece in December calling the ride-sharing service an example of “no-holds barred competition.” It was headlined “Why Uber must be stopped.”)

While American cab companies have tried to stop the popular new program, violent protests haven’t yet been seen on U.S. soil.

But then again, the socialist French are prone to vehemently reject anything that resembles free enterprise.

Photographers and witnesses captured images of Uber cars being ambushed and flipped over as they blockaded roads.

“How on earth are these people allowed to do this? The first car was destroyed, all tires slashed and beat with bats,” Love wrote as she was caught in the middle of the melee.

“These guys trying to open the doors and the cops are doing nothing??”

Love captured pictures and video from the inside of her car and posted them to Twitter and Instagram.

“French Taliban? Civil reform needed in France??” she wrote.

“I want to go home.”

Love, who is also known for being the front woman of the ’90s band, Hole, aimed her anger over the situation at the French president.

“Francois Hollande where are the f****** police??? Is it legal for you people to attack visitors? Get you’re a** to the airport. Wtf???”

Once Love escaped and felt safe, she posted about that too.

“Paid some guys on motorcycles to sneak us out, got chased by a mob of taxi drivers who threw rocks, passed two police and they did nothing.”

It’s hard to imagine that throwing rocks at people and turning over cars will lead to better business for taxi drivers.

But then again, it is France.
