Having been previously detained on a Palm Springs golf course Sunday, President Obama missed out on the inspirational “unity march” in Charleston, S.C., but the president will make amends for that this week.

To put a maximum on not letting a crisis go to waste, Obama will deliver the eulogy for the pastor of the church where nine people were shot down during Bible study Wednesday night, The Hill reported:

President Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Biden on Friday will attend the funeral services for Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney, one of the nine victims of a mass shooting at a black church in Charleston, S.C.

Obama will deliver the eulogy for Pinckney, a White House official said Monday.

Pinckney served in the South Carolina state senate and was an early supporter of Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.

Obama continues to push for stricter gun control in the wake of the massacre, and the visit to South Carolina will serve to keep the issue front and center.

When first reacting to the tragedy, Obama called on the American people to “shift how we think about the issue of gun violence collectively.”

Funeral services  will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at TD Arena at the College of Charleston.
