TheThe shooting at the Charleston, South Carolina, church that took the lives of nine people has reignited a debate over the state’s flying the Confederate flag, and Mark Sanford has dived right in.
Leave it to MSNBC’s Chris Hayes to ask the congressman and former South Carolina governor why a “symbol of tyranny” and “white supremacy” would fly over the state capitol.
Sanford correctly said the flag is a “symbol of heritage and states’ rights” for many good, non-racist people in the state.
Hillary blames Donald Trump for mass shooting at church; what, it’s not Bush’s fault?
“There’s a lot of heritage here. We go back to the 16 and 1700s’,” Sanford said. “You wish you could erase a lot of things in history but the reality of life is you can’t.”
Hayes said he wondered whether Sanford’s grandchildren would be talking to a future news reporter about the flag flying over the state capitol, and asked if he would like it removed.
“What do you want to see happen?” Hayes asked.
“What I want to see in the first 24 hours is appropriate mourning,” he responded.
That’s apparently too much to ask of liberals looking to play the blame game.
