DISCORD: Donald Trump tangles with rocker Neil Young over campaign song

Donald Trump may have found someone who can’t be bought.

Trump blew onto the presidential nominee scene with much fanfare Tuesday as he made his big announcement.

And while critics lambasted Trump’s bombastic rhetoric, and fans cheered his in-your-face approach, someone was taking the whole thing very personally – that someone is singer/songwriter Neil Young, Fox News reported.

“Donald Trump was not authorized to use ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’ in his presidential candidacy announcement,” a statement from Young’s team released Tuesday read.

To make matters worse, Young, who’s a Canadian citizen, supports celebrated socialist, Bernie Sanders to be the next President of the United States.

Figures.

Young joins a long line of liberal artists who cringe at the thought of a liberty-loving Republican using their material for political purposes.

As Fox points out, Marco Rubio was scolded for using “Something New” by an obscure, but apparently very ideological musical duo who wrote the song. Then of course, there are scores of others including Bob Dole’s ill-fated 1996 campaign attempt at cleverness using the tune “Soul Man” as “Dole Man” that had to be promptly shelved – forever.

Mitt Romney ran into a similar issue in 2012 when his campaign played Silversun Pickup’s “Panic Switch,” Fox reported. The band sent Romney a cease-and-desist letter saying in part they “don’t like the Romney campaign.”

Trump, however, is putting up a little bit of a fight – as he’s known to do.

“Through a licensing agreement with ASCAP, Mr. Trump’s campaign paid for, and obtained the legal right to use Neil Young’s recording,” Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski told Fox News.

“Nevertheless, there are plenty of other songs to choose from. Despite Neil’s differing political views, Mr. Trump likes him very much.”

Aw, that’s nice.

Looks like Trump’s camp might want to look into what Kid Rock or Ted Nugent are up to, at least before the next big appearance anyway.
