President Barack Obama and the first lady hosted a shindig at the White House Saturday, where they and 500 of their closest friends were entertained by none other than Prince and and Stevie Wonder.
It was all in celebration of African-American Music Appreciation Month, according to the New York Post.
Don’t bother checking the White House calendar — it makes no mention of it. Apparently, the first family wanted to keep this one quiet.
But you can’t invite 500 friends — close or not — over for a night of food, wine and song and not expect someone to spill the beans.
Enter Mr. Bean-spiller himself, blabber-mouth and name-dropper extraordinaire, Al Sharpton, sometimes referred to as the “Reverend Al.”
As he was leaving the executive mansion, he tweeted:
Leaving the White House party w/POTUS and FLOTUS. Awesome to see Prince and Stevie Wonder on keyboards together. Unbelievable experience.

This in turn earned a reply:
@NoahWehrman In fairness @TheRevAl never could keep his mouth shut @charliespiering

And it didn’t take long. CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller tweeted:
WH confirms today that Pres & Mrs Obama hosted party/concert at WH saturday night. Guest @TheRevAl says Prince and Stevie Wonder performed.
— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) June 15, 2015
A few minutes later, Knoller sent a follow-up.
WH official says it was a private party for Obamas friends and family. No hint of it on the president’s weekend press schedule.
— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) June 15, 2015
Yeah, no kidding, Mark. We already checked. Knoller then sent out a third tweet:
.@PressSec confirms Obamas hosted WH party Saturday night, but it was “a private event” and so hye won’t disclose any more about it.

The Post, however did a bit more digging, and reported:
Spotted at the exclusive two-hour concert — during which Prince played hits including “Kiss” and “Purple Rain” — were Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his date, singer Ciara, artists Jon Bon Jovi and James Taylor, TV & film stars Tyler Perry, Connie Britton, Angela Bassett, Gayle King, Tracee Ellis Ross, fashion designer Naeem Khan and J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons.
Also there, Carlyle’s David Rubenstein, 32 Advisors’ Robert Wolf and American Express’ Ken Chenault, plus DC power players former Attorney General Eric Holder, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and National Security Adviser Susan Rice.
Also in attendance were first daughters Sasha and Malia, the Post reported.
The number of attendees was confirmed by Breitbart News White House correspondent Charlie Spiering:
Josh Earnest defends Prince concert as “private social event” with 500 people, celebrities, lobbyists etc.
— Charlie Spiering (@charliespiering) June 15, 2015
Just to put the size of the event in perspective, Spierling did some checking and tweeted:
– @margarettalev notes that private Prince concert was roughly twice the size of a state dinner
— Charlie Spiering (@charliespiering) June 15, 2015
Margaret Talev, incidentally, is the White House correspondent for Bloomberg News. But one has to wonder — twice the size of a state dinner? Who’s going to pay for all that? Spierling tweeted:
Obama family paid for private event with private funds, says Josh Earnest
— Charlie Spiering (@charliespiering) June 15, 2015
So White House press secretary Josh Earnest said so, huh? Isn’t he the same guy who called a major presidential defeat at the hands of his party last week a “procedural snafu?”
