Rachel Dolezal’s skin may not be the only thing she’s been lying about.
Dolezal had reported to Washington police that an envelope with hateful messages was sent to her at the NAACP post office box in February. In the report, she said she “had been accosted by various racist groups in the past” because of her connection with the NAACP, according to KXLY4 News.
After a thorough investigation, the Spokane Police Department turned up no further information. As the envelope in question was missing a barcode, the postal inspector told police there was no way it was processed with the rest of the mail.
The police report said that “the only way this letter could have ended up in this PO box would be if it was placed there by someone with a key to that box, or if a USPS employee was involved.”
Police subsequently interviewed and cleared postal workers who may have had access, reported KXLY.
The department has now suspended all investigations involving Rachel Dolezal because it says it has no more leads to follow.
In an interview with the news station, Dolezal said she resented the implication that she had planted the envelope.
“I don’t know if I even have words for that,” she told KXLY. “As the mother of two black sons, I would never terrorize my own children. I don’t know any mother, personally, who would trump up or fabricate anything that severe that would affect her kids.”
The police department also has suspended an investigation into her report that someone had placed a noose on her property. That allegation came four years before she was even elected president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP, according to KXLY.
It was closed after police found no witnesses or any other evidence.
