City of Spokane opens investigation into possible ethics charges for NAACP president outed as white

The city of Spokane, Washington, is investigating the NAACP’s Rachel Dolezal for possible ethics violations in relation to an application she filed with the city.

Dolezal is the president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP who was recently outed by her mother as a white woman.

Although the NAACP stands behind Dolezal and she will likely retain her position there, she also serves on the city’s citizen police ombudsman commission, and when she applied for that post she identified herself as an African-American, according to

“We are committed to independent citizen oversight and take very seriously the concerns raised regarding the chair of the independent citizen police ombudsman commission,” Mayor David Condon and City Council President Ben Stuckart said in a joint statement, according to KXLY.

“We are gathering facts to determine if any city policies related to volunteer boards and commissions have been violated. That information will be reviewed by the City Council, which has oversight of city boards and commissions.”
