NBC sports anchor Bob Costas might nettle conservatives with his opinions sometimes, but his stance on Bruce “Call Me Caitlyn” Jenner is driving libs bonkers.
In an interview Monday, Costas did the unthinkable and defied PC police by saying he doesn’t think Caitlyn Jenner is deserving of ESPN’s ESPY award for courage.
Costas said giving the Arthur Ashe Courage award to Jenner is little more than a “crass exploitation play.”
He also said during the interview on the “Dan Patrick Show” Monday that the award should have gone to someone more “actively involved in sports.”
“I think every year we look across the landscape of sports and we find prominent people and kids in high school and amateur athletes, who I think more closely fit the description of what they’re looking for,” Costas said.
Not if what you’re looking for is ratings, though.
Costas said he thinks Caitlyn Jenner has shown a certain “measure of courage” and wishes Jenner “all the happiness and peace of mind in the world,” but still thinks the award choice was a “tabloid play.”
“I think this is a play to pump up the audience the way lots of things are put on television, to attract eyeballs, not because of the validity, but because of whatever the kind of gawker factor is.”
That statement is not going to sit well with the militant gay rights movement.
It is, however, getting Costas back into the good graces of some conservatives. Second Amendment advocates were (rightfully) angered over his famous anti-gun speech during a halftime show between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys in December 2012.
But while some may be willing to lighten-up on Costas, they certainly won’t forget.

Oh, they remember, but still:
@theblaze I was thrilled to hear the voice of someone with notability & stature, be “brave” enough to take such a stance as #BobCostas

@theblaze . Good for him. It’s the truth! Millions of ppl agree with him, some are afraid to voice it, tho.

@Deadspin ESPN is an absolute joke. Give the award in memory of Lauren Hill, someone who is actually deserving.

@Deadspin how dare he have an opinion!

@Deadspin Idiots at deadspin, you really think Jenner is more deserving than this man? pic.twitter.com/wbz2tgU5BS
