Things got tense when Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby was questioned by a Fox News reporter about her relationship with police.
“Rank and file cops have said that you don’t have their backs,” Fox News reporter Griff Jenkins said after Mosby spoke with other reporters Wednesday night. “What would you like to say to them?”
“I’m not going to comment on that,” Mosby shot back, and then proceeded to comment.
“I come from five generations of police officers. That’s absurd. Of course I have – I work with the police department. We rely on the police department to get these violent repeat offenders off of our streets. That’s absurd.”
Jenkins then asked if Mosby would consider stepping aside from the case after the Baltimore Sun revealed the Baltimore Police Department memos that showed her office ordered the police crackdown that led to the arrest of Freddie Gray before his death in police custody.
That means Mosby could well be called as a witness in a case her office is prosecuting.
“There have been calls for your recusal. Have you given any thoughts to recusal?” Jenkins asked.
Mosby turned her heels and walked away.
“On The Record” host Greta Van Susteren, and Fox News contributors Ted Williams and Katie Phang provided additional analysis.
“When she’s asked a question that’s self-serving…she has no hesitation, basically, in running her mouth,” Phang said.
Williams said Mosby needs to meet with the city’s beat cops to find out what’s really happening on the street — and how her politicization of the city’s justice system has affected their work.
“Ms. Mosby, if you’re watching this show tonight, I urge you, sit down with the rank and file, listen to what they’ve got to say,” he said. “They can talk back and forth to you and I’m sure you can all can come to some kind of an agreement.”
Phang wasn’t so sure.
“I think she’s letting her pride get in the way,” she said. “And if you’re gonna sit down and talk to somebody, why don’t you talk to the cops who were injured in the riots. Why don’t you ask them how are they doing, and how are their injuries, because they were doing their job when they were injured when the city went up in flames.
“I think she’s too embarrassed to field the hard questions. She likes to self-aggrandize. When she can say something that benefits her, she has no hesitation speaking to the media.”
