Fox Business Network’s Stuart Varney abruptly cut off a segment Monday after an environmental activist brought up a private discussion between the two and accused the show host of lying.
“The interview is over, young man! I am not lying.” Varney said, before trying to cut to a commercial break.
Josh Fox is best known for his anti-fracking documentary “Gasland,” and met with Varney to discuss the Environmental Protection Agency’s latest report that states there isn’t enough evidence to conclude that fracking pollutes drinking water.
Varney read a statement from the EPA report regarding fracking, “We did not find evidence that these mechanisms have led to widespread systemic impacts on drinking water.”
Fox disagreed and accused the Obama administration of being fracking-friendly.
“You think this administration wants to frack?” Varney asked. “That’s news to me!”
The tension only escalated from there when the two discussed Varney’s personal drinking water situation.
Fox said that Varney had told him during the break that he would not support fracking near his own home in upstate New York.
“Why would you not frack on your own property and then prescribe it for other people in America?” Fox asked.
“Because I’m in the watershed,” Varney replied. He then went on to say when he bought the property 12 years ago, it was a local joke for residents to say they could light the tap water on fire “way before fracking” was happening.
Fox, clearly agitated, said the EPA reports don’t appear in a vacuum.

Varney asked Fox if Fox was challenging his memory of “lighting the tap water” before fracking became an issue.
Fox was challenging more than his memory, though. He was challenging his honesty.
“I do believe you are lying right now,” Fox told him.
“Lying?” Varney asked and became increasingly incensed. “I did it myself. Thank you. Goodbye.”
When Fox tried to explain, Varney cut him off.
“Your are out of here, son! You are out of here!” he said. “Don’t call me a liar! Don’t do that, son!
“Cut. That’s it. Thank you very much. Will you please leave?”
