Star Trek star Sir Patrick Stewart supports Christian bakers who don’t want to make cakes that offend them.
Stewart, speaking on BBC’s Newsnight Thursday, was asked his thoughts on a case in Northern Ireland in which a bakery refused to create a cake that said “Support Gay Marriage” accompanied by a picture of Sesame Street characters Bert and Ernie. The bakery owners said baking the cake was offensive to their beliefs, according to the Telegraph.
“I found myself on the side of the bakers,” Stewart said. “It was not because it was a gay couple that they objected, it was not because they were celebrating some sort of marriage or an agreement between them. It was the actual words on the cake they objected to. Because they found the words offensive.”
“I would support their rights to say no, this is personally offensive to my beliefs, I will not do it,” he said.
That opinion may not endear him to many of his Hollywood friends.
