Fresh off her weekend role as guest ringmaster for the UniverSoul Circus, Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby plans to seek a protective order to block the release of Freddie Gray’s autopsy report.
But Mosby doesn’t say exactly why.
The prosecutor who charged six police officers in the death of Gray said she has “a duty to ensure a fair and impartial process for all parties involved” and “will not be baited into litigating this case through the media,” according to The Baltimore Sun.
Whatever that means.
In addition to blocking the release of Gray’s autopsy, the protective order would include other “sensitive” documents, according to the newspaper.
“Mosby’s office has also sought a gag order, which would prevent those involved in the case from discussing it in public, and broken with tradition by not providing the autopsy report to Baltimore police,” Sun reporter Kevin Rector wrote.
Attorney Ivan Bates, who represents one of the six officers, said “there is something in that autopsy report that they are trying to hide.”
“Mrs. Mosby is the one who did an announcement discussing what she said the evidence was in a nationally televised speech,” Bates told The Sun. “Now that it is time to turn over the evidence, to ask for a protective order is beyond disingenuous.
“It’s as if she wants to do everything to make sure our clients do not get a fair trial.”
Rector posted his story on Twitter, and social media users jumped all over the opportunity to call Mosby’s possible motivations into question.
