There goes the neighborhood — for hoodlums, anyway.
Three would-be Colorado gangbangers picked the wrong people to rob late Friday night when they approached three other men moving into an apartment with guns drawn and demanding their money.
It didn’t go so well for the gunmen — one in particular.
“Two of the movers started to hand over their money, the third mover who was in fear for his safety of his friends, pulled out his weapon,” Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz, told Denver CBS affiliate Channel 4 News.
It turned out the third mover was a pretty good shot — he hit each of the would-be robbers, killing one and sending another to the hospital, which listed him in serious condition Saturday.
The third walked into a local hospital with a gunshot would to the shoulder.
The guy who defended himself was questioned by police and released, and is not expected to be arrested or charged.
“I don’t think we would call this necessarily a make-my-day issue,” Brauchler told the station. “This is a straight up regular common sense statutorily codified self defense.”
None of the assailants have been identified.
“Aurora Police are still attempting to ID the seriously injured party,” the Aurora Police Department said in a statement. “In conjunction with the Arapahoe County Coroner’s office, an ID of the deceased party continues and that information will be released by the Coroner’s office.”
The statement also addressed the three victims.
“The three movers have been cooperative in this investigation,” the statement said. “All weapons have been recovered. There is no community safety concern for the neighbors or in the area as the Aurora Police are in direct contact with all the parties involved.”
Aurora gained notoriety in 2012 when James Holmes entered a movie theater and indiscriminately began shooting its unarmed patrons.
It sounds as though Aurora has learned to protect itself.
Also on Saturday, Metz held a news conference on the incident.
