Grammy Award-winning country artist Charlie Daniels made it clear that he wasn’t just whistling “Dixie” when said America needs to “lock and load” to defend itself against radical Islamists.
He doubled down Friday in a Newsmax TV interview with “Hard Line” host Ed Berliner, saying America is “faced with a situation that is not going to go away.”
“No amount of placating, no amount of, whatever, bended over backwards, whatever is done, is going to satisfy the people who want to destroy us,” he told Berliner. “They are here and motivated by forces that are beyond our control. These people want to kill us.”
Daniels posted his original “lock and load” comment on his website after Islamic extremists attacked a “Draw Muhammad” cartoon contest sponsored by activist Pamela Geller in Garland, Texas.
While neither applauding nor slamming Geller’s organization for organizing the event, Daniels said that “no other group in the history of America has been granted immunity from criticism or even ridicule.”
Daniels lashed out at both radical Islam and President Obama, warning the nation, “Lock and load America, trouble is on the way.”
Daniels made it clear during his Newsmax appearance that the warning wasn’t meant to incite unnecessary violence.
“Don’t go looking for trouble, in other words,” he told Berliner. “If you don’t like the way somebody looks, that’s not an excuse enough to be offensive about it. In other words, defend. Do not offend, but defend. … What I’m speaking about it is watch your property and your people.”
He said much of the danger America is facing could be blamed on President Obama’s lack of leadership.
“I am never ashamed of America, but there are times when I am so disappointed in what our president does or does not do,” Daniels said. “In the period of time he’s been in office, we have seen such setbacks in American domestic and foreign policy. It’s going to take decades to overcome.”
He then castigated Obama for abusing executive actions to circumvent Congress and push his agenda.
“It’s a very dangerous time in America for us because he’ll take that pen and do everything he can get away with,” Daniels said. “It’s up to Congress to stop him.”
He also said no one should fault the Iraq war veteran who promoted Friday’s free-speech rally in Phoenix by wearing a T-shirt saying, “F*** Islam.”
“We’re going to provoke these people no matter what, unless we all lay down and die or convert to Islam,” Daniels said. “There’s no other way to make these people happy. … I would not disrespect somebody that much, but that’s the point I’m making. Be sensible, but if that’s what he wants to do, he has a right to do it. Absolutely.”
