An outrageous essay Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders wrote 40 years ago has people asking why traditional media is ignoring the story, and wondering if it’d be shoved to the bottom of page 37 if it involved a Republican.
While in his early 30s, the self-descried Democratic Socialist wrote a piece claiming that women fantasize about being raped, and men fantasize about abusing women.
Before he became a senator representing Vermont, Sanders published the piece in “Vermont Freeman,” an alternative newspaper, under the title, “Men and Women,” according to MRC.
Sanders offered no research to back up his “understanding” of male and female fantasies, so one is left with the assumption that the male fantasies are his own, as are the female fantasies.
On male sexual fantasies, he wrote:
“A man goes home and masturbates his typical fantasy,” wrote Sanders. “A woman on her knees. A woman tied up. A woman abused.”
And he said this of female sexual fantasies:
“A woman enjoys intercourse with her man–as she fantasizes about being raped by 3 men simultaneously.”
Just as surprising as Sanders’ fantasies is the lack of media coverage of them — let alone its outrage.
Would the media be more willing to exhibit indignation if Jeb Bush penned the essay? How about Ted Cruz? Marco Rubio?
When the establishment media holds its tongue, social media takes over — and it did.
Breitbart News editor-at-large Ben Shapiro did his part, and the word soon spread:

With Sanders’ fantasies out there for all to see, Townhall political editor Guy Benson summed it up:
Your move, media. #BernieSandersRapeCulture

Campaign spokesman Michael Briggs said Thursday that the essay was a “dumb attempt at dark satire in an alternative publication,” which “in no way reflects his views or record on women,” saying it “was intended to attack gender stereotypes of the ’70s,” according to CNN.
But that’s not enough, at least according to John Heilemann. He told his co-host, Mark Halperin, on Bloomberg Politics that Sanders himself has to answer for this. Then he made another observation.
“I know we both agree about this, which is that if a Republican, any Republican candidate wrote an essay like this, whether they were 16 years old and high on dope or whether it was two weeks ago, it would be a huge scandal.”
