Forget the War on Women. When MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell interviewed Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina on Wednesday, it became the War of Women – and the winner was certain.
Mitchell just can’t figure out why Fiorina is being so mean to Hillary Clinton. Is it because she’s a woman?
“You were really the breakout star according to all reports from Iowa last weekend, the biggest crowds, especially when you went after Hillary Clinton. Is that because you’re the only woman in the Republican field, that you feel enabled to go after her?”
Clearly bothered by Fiorina’s bold attacks against Clinton’s dismal record as a career politician, Mitchell did more defending of Clinton than interviewing of Fiorina.
Fiorina ate it up.
“I think when 82% of the American people now believe that there is a professional political class more interested in preserving its own power and privilege than it is in serving the American people, people expect basic questions to be asked of anyone running for president,” Fiorina explained.
Much to Mitchell’s dismay, Fiorina brought up important things for a presidential candidates like track records, transparency, and being available to answer questions – unlike her political rival, Clinton.
“[Clinton] had a lifetime though, in public service,” Mitchell insisted.
The liberal talk show host went on to claim Clinton as a champion of women’s issues. She also mentioned Clinton’s term as secretary of state and challenged Fiorina, “How do you compare yourself to her?”
It became apparent that Fiorina had done her homework.
“It’s also true that as secretary of state she took women’s rights and human rights off the table for discussion with China. It’s also true as secretary of state that she called Bashar al-Assad a “positive reformer.” It’s also true in 2011, when she was secretary of state, she said that Iraq was a “free, stable, sovereign nation” and now we have a nation falling apart, Iranian influence growing, ISIS growing,” Fiorina said.
Desperate to change the subject off of Hillary, Mitchell did what any good progressive does best – she tried to make Fiorina a victim because of her gender.
“Are you being discriminated against by the Republican National Committee… by being kept out of the initial debate?” Mitchell asked.
“Why do you assume I’m going to be kept out?” Fiorina responded.
Fiorina said she’s happy to meet the goal set forth by Fox News in order to participate in the August debates.
And that, was a rap.
