5 of the 10 fastest growing cities in the US are found in Texas; can you guess why?

Regardless of how you measure it, Texas is one of the fastest growing states in the union. New data released from the Census Bureau shows that the Lone Star State topped the nation in population growth last year.

New York City, unsurprisingly, was the fastest growing city when measured by the number of individual residents. Despite dense urban areas such as New York and Los Angeles topping the list for largest population increases, five Texas cities still managed to crowd into the top 10.

Population

When measured by the percentage increase of growth, Texas demonstrated its ability to outperform liberal havens such as California, New York, and Washington.

Percentage

None of this should be shocking. Since the start of the recession in 2007, Texas has been responsible for the majority of job creation in this nation. Compared to blue states like California or New York, Texas has a relatively low cost and high standard of living. Plus it doesn’t have an income tax.

But Texas wasn’t the only state attracting population growth. In fact, California and Colorado were the only two states with Democrat governors that managed to make the list.

Jobs, opportunity, and economic prosperity are among a few of the reasons Americans are voting with their feet, and migrating to red states. After all, there doesn’t seem to be a wave of people moving to Baltimore.
