“For many of us, this #MemorialDay is especially meaningful—it is the first since our war in Afghanistan came to an end.” —@POTUS

Social media erupted Monday in disbelief after the White House tweeted a Memorial Day quote from President Obama hallucinating the end of the war in Afghanistan.
“This Memorial Day is especially meaningful — it is the first since our war in Afghanistan came to an end,” the POTUS account tweeted.
Tell that to the 10,000 American troops still deployed there, fighting the Taliban.
In March, The New York Times reported that the Obama administration is “girding for another year of bloody fighting with the insurgents.” That hardly seems like an end to the war.
Twitter users reacted to the White House’s dubious claim with shock and sarcasm,
@WhiteHouse @POTUS pretty sure its far from over big guy — Mike Raf (@UncleRafy) May 25, 2015
@WhiteHouse @POTUS Really?!? Call your office, pal.

CNN reported Obama’s remarks that this is the first Memorial Day in 14 years that the US “is not engaged in a major ground war.”

The president made that remark during the tribute to our war fallen at Arlington National Cemetery. The soldiers buried there can’t voice their disagreement, but twitter users spoke for them.
I’m sure some of the troops still in Iraq and Afghanistan would disagree. @CNNSitRoom @CNN — Roland Jenkins (@Roland_Jenkins) May 25, 2015

One explanation is that maybe Obama was joking.
cmon its Memorial day,not April fools.@CNNSitRoom — Nobody (@IranAware) May 25, 2015
Unfortunately for America and our troops serving overseas, the president was serious—dead serious—and dead wrong. It’s past time for Obama to stop his delusional foreign policy that endangers our nation.
