A California teenager was sent home from school because school officials said her shirt “glamorized suicide.”
Hailey Monsour designed the shirt to honor her friend, who police say killed himself, according to KCBS.

The shirt featured a heart and wings, with the words, “Jacob Hupp 5-12-15.”
“I put a heart with angel wings because I know that he went to heaven,” a testy Monsour told the station Friday.

She said High Desert School officials told her to change the shirt because they believed it sent the wrong message, that suicide was OK.

“I said, ‘No.’ They said, ‘We don’t think you understand.’ I said, ‘I understand. I can’t do that.’ And so they said, ‘OK, we’re going to call your parents and have them pick you up because we will not let you back on campus,’”she told KCBS.

School officials even tried to stop a campus memorial for the dead teen.
“Due to the sensitive nature of this situation, dedicating memorials in public settings, such as park benches, flag poles, T-shirts, yearbooks, or dances, etc. is discouraged,” school officials said in a letter to parents.
