A little boy’s open display of faith brought 11 strangers, and his mom, to tears as they witnessed his compassionate interaction with a homeless man in an Alabama restaurant earlier this month.
Young Josiah Duncan knew he had to help when he saw an unidentified man looking grubby and hungry at a Waffle House in Prattville, Ala.
WSFA.com Montgomery Alabama news.
“We saw a man who was dirty holding a bag with his bike outside,” Duncan’s mother, Ava Faulk, told WSFA 12 News.
At only 5 years old, Duncan had a hard time grasping what “homeless” meant and started asking his mom a lot of questions.
“Where is his house? Where is his family? Where does he keep his groceries?” Duncan asked.

As the reality of the man’s situation began to resonate with Duncan, he became most disturbed with the fact that he didn’t have any food. Duncan asked his mom to buy the homeless man dinner.
“He came in and sat down, and nobody really waited on him,” Faulk told WSFA. “So Josiah jumped up and asked him if he wanted a menu because you can’t order without one.”
The man said he would have a plain hamburger before Faulk assured him he could order whatever he would like.
Before the man could take his first bite of the burger “with the works,” he was stopped by little Duncan.
“I wanted to say the blessing,” Duncan explained.
With 11 customers watching, Duncan publicly sang a blessing that brought the homeless man, and all else within earshot, to tears.
“God our Father, God our Father, we thank you, for our many blessings, for our blessing. Amen, amen,” Duncan said.
“The man cried. I cried. Everybody cried,” Faulk told WSFA.

“Watching my son touch the 11 people in that Waffle House tonight will be forever one of the greatest accomplishments as a parent I’ll ever get to witness,” Faulk said.
“You never know who the angel on Earth is, and when the opportunity comes you should never walk away from it.”
