Jay Z, Beyonce secretly paid ‘tens of thousands’ to bail out Baltimore protesters, activist tweets

Rapper Jay Z provided “tens of thousands” of dollars for bail money for Baltimore protesters, writer and social activist Dream Hampton tweeted Sunday.

Hip-hop magazine Complex captured a series of now-deleted tweets by Hampton, whose Twitter rant began with “I’m going to tweet this and I don’t care if Jay gets mad.”

Hampton then tweeted:

When we needed money for bail for Baltimore protesters, I asked hit Jay up, as I had for Ferguson, wired tens of thousands in minutes.

Jay Z, 45, whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter, is married to singer Beyoncé.  The power couple’s net worth is estimated at over $1 billion. Forbes Magazine named the Carters the highest earning couple in entertainment in 2012.

Tweeting about Black Lives Matter, Hampton wrote that the Carters were very generous with their abundant cash.

When BLM needed infrastructure money for the many chapters that we’re growing like beautiful dandelions, Carters wrote a huge check.

…and more stuff, too much to list actually, that they always insist folk keep quiet.

Jay Z and Beyoncé prefer to keep their social activism out of the news and low-key, which has led to some criticism.

In 2012, music legend Harry Belafonte singled out Jay Z and Beyoncé for having “turned their back on social responsibility” in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

But the Carters’ avoidance of public appearances and showy giving belies their open checkbook toward progressive causes.  The Shawn Carter Foundation, which Jay Z founded in 2003, claims it has provided $2.9 million in scholarships in support of higher education for the poor, according to its website.

(It doesn’t break out separate amounts for bailing out looters, arsonists and other “peaceful protesters.”)

And the couple’s politics is well known:  they raised $4 million for President Obama in his 2012 re-election campaign.

Now that Hampton tweeted it to the whole world, the hip-hop Carters could not have been happy that their quiet giving is now public.

well, I just got the ‘can you shut the fuk up & head to brunch’ text.  Gonna erase my error ridden rant.  Hope you got your little screenshot

Some people never learn that what is tweeted can’t be un-tweeted.
