Restrictive ticket resale legislation deferred to next session in Florida State Legislature – Big storm clouds looming on the secondary ticket market horizon have again blown out to sea in the Sunshine State. Legislation – two bills actually – designed to place stricter rules on re-selling and in some instances criminal penalties for some re-selling, never made it to the respective floors of the House and Senate for final votes. “We’ve been calling it the ticket wars legislation,” said Jimmy Siegendorf, the president and CEO of the Florida-based marketplace Premium Seats USA. “The bills, in their original form, are real problematic for concertgoers.” Read more
The race for Senate President has become a Chinese finger puzzle – The half-decade long race to determine who will serve as President of the Florida Senate from 2016 to 2018 — either Jack Latvala or Joe Negron — has taken on all the difficulty of a Chinese finger puzzle after a series of recent developments designed to solve the matter have only made the issue more complicated. Most notably of these developments is the official signing-on of now ten current members of the Florida Senate to Negron’s political committee, the Treasure Coast Alliance according to registration paperwork filed with the Senate Rules Committee. Soldier’s flag-draped casket, hearse left deserted in parking lot while workers took a coffee break! – A Florida funeral director and hearse driver are now pounding the pavement for a new job after leaving a hearse containing the flag-draped coffin of 84-year-old Lt. Col. Jesse Coleman unattended outside a New Port Richey Dunkin’ Donuts. The pair were en route from Veterans Funeral Care in Clearwater to the Army veteran’s burial service in Lecanto, Fla., when they decided to take the unscheduled coffee break. Read more
Putnam fundraising groups shift campaign cash – A political committee aligned with Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam recently soaked up nearly $395,000 when another of his fundraising groups disbanded. Sunshine State Leadership Project closed its doors late last month, records show, dumping its money into another Putnam panel, Florida Grown. The difference under state campaign finance law is that Sunshine State Leadership Project was an electioneering communication organization (ECO); Florida Grown is a political committee (PC).
