White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest got pounded on social media this week, when his awkward defense of President Obama’s humiliating trade defeat could be summed up in one word: snafu.
As one Twitter user put it, “Does he know what that acronym stands for?”
It started Tuesday when Earnest was stuck with explaining why Senate Democrats effectively blocked President Obama’s efforts to pass the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.
Fox News fires back! Obama’s attempt to smear
network is ‘beneath the dignity of the office’
But you have to give him credit, not only does Earnest have the most difficult job in America having to answer for Obama’s decisions, he actually got pretty creative when responding to reporters about the “Democrat insurrection.”
And while dismissing the embarrassing blow as a “procedural SNAFU,” some would argue that Earnest unknowingly summed up the entire Obama presidency.
For those who live under a rock, SNAFU stands for: “Situation Normal, All Fouled Up.”
Either way, reporters had fun with the nomenclature, as did social media users. Here is a sampling, as seen on Twitter:
A record: @PressSec spoke the words “procedural snafu” 8 times at today’s WH briefing. Spoken another four times by reporters.

“Procedural snafu” remains in the WH nomenclature. It’s what @PressSec calls Pres Obama’s Senate defeat yesterday on the trade bill.

— Republicanvet (@Republicanvet91) May 12, 2015
@markknoller @PressSec I wonder what phrase he would have used if he could have blamed Republicans?
