Angry Boehner DERAILS reporter’s train funding question; it was ‘going twice the speed limit!’

House Speaker John Boehner is no hero to conservatives, but his put down of a reporter who asked him about any connection between Tuesday’s Amtrak Train 188 crash in Philadelphia and federal funding for the nation’s infrastructure could gratify anybody.

Particularly since the topic might as well have come right off a Democrat talking point list.

“Are you really going to ask such a stupid question?” Boehner interrupted as the query was posed. “Listen, they [the Democrats] started this yesterday: ‘It’s all about funding, it’s all about funding.'”

No, it was about a train going way too fast for the stretch of track it was on. That didn’t stop Democrats from carping on the issue immediately. The death toll from the crash stands at eight.

“Obviously, it’s not about funding,” Boehner said. “The train was going twice the speed limit. Adequate funds were there. No money has been cut from rail safety.”

With her usual inability to grasp the truth, House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi chimed in on the spurious funding charge.

“The Republicans have been very much against Amtrak for a very long time,” she said. “For some reason, it has just been opposed by some, not all, in the Republican Party.”

Well, maybe because it costs a ton of money and is a Democrat union stronghold to boot.

“It’s hard for me to imagine that people take the bait on some of the nonsense that gets spewed around here,” Boehner said before stalking away from the conference.

That’s hard to believe.
