President of NOW slams Obama for sexist subtext: ‘Little lady just doesn’t know what she’s talking about’

Is the “Hope and Change” revolution devouring its kingpin?

With a heavy tinge of irony, President Obama, the man largely responsible for the faux “war on women” effort, is being called a sexist by the president of the National Organization of Women after criticizing U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren for opposing the Trans Pacific Partnership trade bill.

In an interview over the weekend, Obama questioned Warren’s motivations, saying she was looking to advance her own cause.

“The truth of the matter is that Elizabeth is, you know, a politician like everybody else,” Obama said. “And you know, she’s got a voice that she wants to get out there. And I understand that.”

“Yes, I think it is sexist,” NOW president Terry O’Neill told The Hill. “I think the president was trying to build up his own trustworthiness on this issue by convincing us that Senator Warren’s concerns are not to be taken seriously. But he did it in a sexist way.”

Obama’s “clear subtext is that the little lady just doesn’t know what she’s talking about,” O’Neill added, according to The Hill.

Giving Obama a further taste of what Republican lawmakers deal with all the time, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, took exception to the remark as well.

“I think the president was disrespectful to her by the way he did that,” Brown told reporters on Tuesday. “I think that the president has made this more personal than he needed to.

Brown then admonished Obama for criticizing Democrats who oppose him, but seemed to realize he’d gone too far.

“I’m not going to get into more details,” he said. “I think referring to her as first name, when he might not have done that for a male senator, perhaps? I’ve said enough.”

Adding insult to injury, Warren and her fellow Democrats delivered Obama a stinging blow Tuesday on the trade agreement when they blocked the Senate from taking up the bill.
