As if Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby didn’t have enough problems, they’re growing by the day.
One of the top investigators Mosby is relying on is a former high-ranking Baltimore cop who was “stripped of his command” and later tasered during a drunken episode that required a SWAT team to be sent to his home, according to CNN.

According to documents released through a CNN public records request, Avon Mackel was a Baltimore Police Department district commander demoted in 2009 after failing to follow through on a mishandled robbery investigation.
Four months later, an intoxicated Mackel was seen holding a gun outside his home. The police report said he refused to cooperate and was visibly upset, and that officers used a taser on him while he was “crying and yelling” on the phone with his father.
It’s not clear how the incident ended, but Mackel barricaded himself in his bedroom after being tased, according to CNN. A police spokesman said “the [SWAT] tactical unit did assist with this incident, which ended peacefully.”
CNN also said the state’s attorney investigation into Freddie Gray’s death is not supported by the police investigation, giving lawyers representing the six police officers charged in the death an “opportunity to undercut the prosecution.”
The State’s Attorney said the knife Gray was carrying was legal, but a police investigation found that it was illegal. Mosby claimed officers illegally arrested Gray because of the knife.
The police investigation found that, at the most, the officers involved may be liable for manslaughter, but Mosby charged one officer with second-degree murder, the same charge a Florida special prosecutor brought against neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla., in 2012.
Fed up Baltimore cops launch ‘MyLifeMatters’
campaign; the reaction is unbelievable!
Famed attorney Alan Dershowitz said Monday that Mosby overcharged the officers, a prosecution tactic that may backfire on her.
“She’s not gonna get a conviction on the murder charge,” he said. “What’s going to happen to her is the what happened to Angela Corey, the woman from Florida who overcharged George Zimmerman and got an acquittal.”
Adding to Mosby’s troubles, former Baltimore Deputy State’s Attorney Page Croyder issued a damning indictment in a column published Tuesday in The Baltimore Sun, saying Mosby’s determination to prosecute the police outweighed any sense of using the justice system in its proper role.
“Any prosecutor interested in the truth and in justice would have used all the tools at her disposal to find them,” Croyder wrote. “Ms. Mosby ignored them.”
The reaction on social media to the latest developments shows that the confidence in Mosby, not high to begin with, is sinking even further. Here is a sampling of responses from Twitter:
Former deputy prosecutor: Marilyn Mosby’s actions in the Freddie Gray case are either reckless or incompetent. http://t.co/ken3ZrTBuc

@ErinatTheSun @BAMAPERRY I’m not sure why it’s either or. I tend to believe it’s both incompetent and reckless.
