Dorian Johnson, the man who helped start the “Hands up, don’t shoot” lie is now trying to cash in on his infamy.
Johnson has filed a lawsuit against the city of Ferguson, Mo., and former Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson claiming he was targeted without probable cause, according to NBC News.
“Officer Wilson acted with either deliberate indifference and/or reckless disregard,” the lawsuit claims.
The suit also utilized findings from the Department of Justice claiming the city and former police chief the city and former Police Chief Thomas Jackson encouraged biased policing.
Johnson’s lawsuit seeks a minimum of $25,000 on each of four counts including constitutional violations, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
It was Johnson’s story that Wilson shot 18-year-old Michael Brown while Brown was trying to surrender during a street confrontation in August that sparked national “Hands up, don’t shoot” movement that roils the country to this day.
The story, of course, was proven untrue by a grand jury’s investigation.
Many would argue that it is the city of Ferguson and Wilson who should be suing Johnson for creating a controversy that plunged the city into riots and changed Wilson’s life.
In fact that is precisely what several people in the Twitterverse said.
