‘Django Unchained’ actress sentenced; forced to apologize to police for false claims of racism

A “Django Unchained” actress and her boyfriend who accused Los Angeles police of racism are now being made to formally apologize for the accusation.

Daniele Watts and her beau Brian James Lucas struck a plea deal Monday requiring them to write letters of apology to the officer and sergeant involved in detaining them as well as the residents of the building who reported them, the Los Angeles Times reported.

They were also sentenced to 40 hours of community service and a year of formal diversion.

The pair were famously suspected back in September of engaging in sexual relations in a car with its door open though Watts maintained they were just kissing.

They initially pleaded not guilty and described the event as a “passionate public embrace” and “extended public display of affection,” according to the Times.

The couple’s attorney Lou Shapiro said his clients were happy with the outcome and can have the incident stricken from their records if they complete the terms of the deal.

“It was a very emotionally charged case,” Shapiro said. “I think it’s a nice ending to an emotionally charged case, to have a letter of apology. It’s a win for everybody.”

Sgt. Jim Parker said he had to appear at a Board of Rights hearing on charges of insubordination for releasing a tape of the encounter publicly in response to Watts claims of racism.

“It would have been a non-issue if she had not gone public in the first place. She went public first, and I had to clear myself,” he told the Times Monday. ”I tried to stop it right away.”
