The 2016 presidential nomination race is about to get more crowded and more racially diverse — for Republicans, anyway.
The GOP will boast three more candidates this week, including African-American neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson and the female former CEO of Hewlett-Packard Carly Fiorina, who are expected to formally announce their respective candidacies Monday.
Monday, of course, has another special meaning for fans of the classic “Star Wars” film series who have designated the date, May 4th, as an unofficial holiday for the fandom with their catchphrase “May the fourth be with you,” a play on the famous line from the franchise “May the force be with you.”
And while Carson and Fiornia certainly hope the force is with them, the field will get even more crowded Tuesday with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee expected to announce that he, too, is running for president.
The three new hopefuls join the already declared candidates Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. and Cuban-American Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Marco Rubio, R-Fla.
Meanwhile on the Democrat side the front runner is rich, white woman Hillary Clinton with her only other officially announced competition rich, white man Bernie Sanders.
About as diverse as The Empire’s Storm Troopers.
