CNN reporter snaps in Baltimore; producer calms him down after confrontation with officer

A CNN reporter was offended by a Baltimore police officer’s order to move back to the sidewalk Friday while reporting news that State Attorney Marilyn Mosby had charged six police officers in the death of Freddie Gray.

As CNN reporter Miguel Marquez interviewed a demonstrator, an officer trying to control the crowd told him to “move aside.”

When the reporter asked why, the officer said, “Because I asked you to, sir.”

Marquez clearly found the response insufficient, snapping back, “Are we under martial law?”

The reporter continued complaining to CNN host Don Lemon.

“It is shocking that in a city like this that it would come to this,” Marquez said. “I think that the First Amendment and the Constitution still applies in Baltimore.”

A 10 p.m. curfew remains in place as officers continue to keep a tense peace after riots shook the city Monday.
