Witness who rode in police van with Freddie Gray speaks out, fears for his life

The witness who was in the police van with Freddie Gray, the Baltimore man who died April 19 while in police custody, is speaking out and says he’s in fear for his life.

“I am Donta Allen. I am the one who was in the van with Freddie Gray,” Allen told  WJZ – TV on Thursday.

Allen disputes an internal police report , leaked by the Washington Post, that suggested Gray may have self-inflicted the injuries that led to his death.

Allen says the report quoted him as saying he could hear Gray “banging against the walls” and was a distortion of his testimony.

“All I did was go straight to the station, but I heard a little banging like he was banging his head,” Allen told WJZ.

“And they trying to make it seem like I told them that, I made it like Freddie Gray did that to himself (sic),” Allen said. “Why the f*** would he do that to hisself (sic)?”

Allen had been apprehended for stealing a cigarette but was later released.

“I had two options today right, either come and talk to y’all and get my credibility straight with ya’ll and not get killed by these [expletive] or not tell a true story,” Allen told WJZ.

“The only reason I’m doing this is because they put my name in a bad state.”
