Morgan Freeman: ‘F*** the media’

Legendary actor Morgan Freeman both lamented his disgust with the mainstream media and perpetuated their “hands up don’t shoot” lie during an interview Thursday.

“F*** the media,” Morgan flat-out told the Daily Beast.

Freeman is promoting the soon-to-be-released romantic comedy, “5 Flights Up” in which he will be starring, but took time to discuss politics.

According to the Beast, a story line throughout the upcoming movie involves a young Muslim man who’s stopped in traffic by New York City police and results in a standoff. The scene ends up with media figures swarming and promoting public speculation that the man must be carrying a bomb.

Freeman sees the similarities with what many media critics are saying about recent overblown riot coverage and unsubstantiated conjecture in general.

“Isn’t that always happening?” Freeman asked.

“Look at MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN. Go between those three.

“There’s a take, there’s a take, and there’s a take.

“It’s just commentary. CNN wants to be pure news, but the others are just commentary. They’re just commenting on things.”

Witness who rode in police van with Freddie Gray speaks out, fears for his life

Freeman, however, sees the media coverage over the death of Freddie Gray, the Baltimore man who died April 19 while in police custody, to be more measured than the coverage of Michael Brown’s death in Ferguson, Mo.

“Now, they’re getting more of the whole picture. Ferguson? No.” Freeman said, according to the Beast.

The one-sided media spectacle over the events in Ferguson after Michael Brown was shot in self-defense by former police officer Darren Wilson, ended up with much of the population believing and perpetuating a completely debunked impression that Brown had his hands up in the air and was surrendering when he was shot.

Judging from Freeman’s interview, the actor still hasn’t gotten the full story – which has been known to happen in insular celebrity circles.

“Police have a standard reaction to shooting somebody. I fear for my life and I fear for my safety. Now, at least you can see, ‘Hey, his hands were up in the air! What part of your safety were you afraid of? The guy was running away, what part of your safety is in danger?’” Freeman said.

It’s ironic that Freeman denounces the media, but from his insinuating “hands up” statement, is still apparently buying their false commentary hook-line-and-sinker.

“Anyway, off the media,” Morgan ended the discussion.

“F*** the media.”

Right.
