The young Baltimore teen who got walloped by his mother for joining the riot in Baltimore appeared both humiliated and contrite when the pair appeared on TV later.
“I understand how much my mama really cares about me,” Michael Singleton told ABC News. “I just got to try to do better.”
Singleton and his mother, Toya Graham, made national news when a cameraman spotted Graham pulling her son away from the rioting.
In an interview with CNN, Singleton said “a couple of friends have been beaten and killed by police and I felt I had to go down there and show my respect.”
That changed when a certain person showed up.
“I’m like, ‘Oh man. What is my mama doing down here?’” he told ABC News.
When Singleton didn’t arrive home from school, Graham went looking for him.
“To see him down there, doing what he was doing, that’s — we are not doing that,” she told ABC News. “I’m not angry at him anymore. As long as I have a breath in my body, you will not be on the streets selling drugs — you’re just not going to live like that. Not with me.”
On the means streets of the inner city, sometimes it takes tough love to raise a kid. This one has every indication he’s going to make it. Folks on Twitter offered Graham their kudos for a job well done for, and for Singleton for recognizing it.

@tamitaylorfarr @theblaze I was thinking the exact same thing. It started when kids got wise & called authorities on parents for spankings.
