Sarcastic resignation letter amuses the masses on social media

Employment agencies and corporate headhunters always admonish their clients to never burn bridges — always leave a position on good terms. After all, you might have to rely on a former boss for a recommendation at some point.

But sometimes a boss is so unpleasant, a job so demeaning, that you just have to let go. Hey, we’re all human, right?

So it was when a Reddit user with the handle gahdzuks penned this letter of resignation to his boss, captioned, “Two Weeks Notice.”

letter

The only thing missing was Johnny Paycheck singing “Take This Job and Shove It” in the background.

The letter reads:

I am sorry that my step-mother died so suddenly from cancer. I am sorry that I am not a robot and was emotionally affected by her passing and had to miss work.

I am sorry that I got sick and had to miss work so that I didn’t get anyone else sick.

I am sorry I work 47.5 hours per week (without getting paid the overtime that I am legally owed) for the last 7 months, and thus have little choice but to schedule necessary doctor’s appointments during school hours.

Clearly I am a terrible employee, and for that I apologize. I know you hate people telling you how to do your job, but I suggest you start looking for my replacement. Immediately.

Gahdzuks was apparently pulling his boss’s leg when he referred to this as a “Two Weeks Notice” letter of resignation. That reference was every bit as sarcastic as the body of the letter.

“Immediately,” sounds like it meant “immediately.”
