A bar owner outside of Chicago is defending his right to keep a two-way mirror in the ladies’ restroom after backlash from a YouTube video of the discovery went viral.
“This is a giant fun house, ladies and gentlemen,” Berwyn’s Cigars and Stripes owner Ronnie Lotz told a team of reporters Monday.
“I put a lot of heart and soul into this business, and I am very sorry to tell you this, but there is no hanky panky going on in that bathroom.”
A comedian known as Tamale Rocks was at the bar to perform when she noticed the suspicious mirror during a bathroom break. She said something seemed strange about the mirror’s location and recorded her investigation of what “lies behind it.”
“Why, when I go into a public bathroom, when there’s an expectation of privacy, am I having to do that due diligence?” Rocks told NBC Chicago.
“It’s a bathroom!”
Rock’s video shows the cleaning closet where a viewer could easily hide behind the two-way mirror directly across from the toilet.
When the feminist blog, Jezebel got wind of the video, they contacted Lotz for what turned out to be a contentious interview.
The bar owner made it clear that he has absolutely no intention of taking down the mirror which he said most customers know about and “has been there for the longest time.”
“Look, [Tamale Rocks] is looking for a viral video. There’s a big movement in reality TV to be outraged about feminism,” Lotz told Jezebel.
“So yes: come see my mirror; eat my wings – I don’t know what to tell you, honey.”

Lotz maintains that the negative publicity has been good for business and he’s selling wings like crazy. He even posted the not-so-flattering interview with Jezebel on his bar’s Facebook page.
“I will burn this f*****g place to the ground before I get rid of that mirror,” Lotz said. “Do you know how much joy that mirror has brought us?”
