If you ever wondered what would happen if straight Americans decided to celebrate their lifestyle on a scale similar to gay Americans, a university in Ohio offered a glimpse.
And it didn’t turn out well for the heterosexuals.
Student leaders at Youngstown State University showed zero tolerance for students who put up posters promoting a “straight pride” week at the northeast Ohio school, saying the message went beyond free speech, according to WKBN-TV.
Or their interpretation of free speech anyway.
The posters said the week’s events would “not highlight sexual orientation or differences among students,” encouraging students to “go about your day without telling everyone about how ‘different’ you are,” WKBN-TV reported.
“Join us in celebrating straight pride week at YSU by not annoying the sh*t out of everyone about your sexual orientation,” the poster read.
What a novel concept.
But the school’s student government released a statement saying the posters missed the point of activism.

“If you actually read through it, it seemed like it went way further than a free speech issue,” Student Government President Michael Slavens told WKBN-TV. “There were swear words and took it a little further than the average free speech should go.”
Ron Cole, a spokesman for Youngstown State University, told NBC affiliate WFMJ-TV that the posters contradicted the school’s mission to foster diversity on campus and that an investigation is underway to determine if student codes were violated.
