A Cincinnati restaurant pulled a Bruce Jenner-themed hot dog off its menu after a backlash from the LGBT community.
The “Bruce Jenner 2.0,” described by the restaurant as “part hotdog, part taco, and it’s awesomeness,” was both introduced and then pulled Friday by the Senate Pub, according to local TV station WCPO Channel 9.
It was meant to be the pub’s “dog of the day,” but it didn’t make it that far.
Before yanking the dog off the menu, Senate Pub managers said the restaurant would donate part of the proceeds from the sales of the hot dog to a yet-to-be-named charity, but that did little to quell anger, especially since the dish was introduced hours before Jenner’s interview Friday with Diane Sawyer on ABC’s “20/20.”
The hot dog was sliced in half, placed in a soft taco shell and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sauce.
Restaurant manager Dan Wright told WCPO the dish was meant to honor the former Olympian.
“We think that Bruce will influence countless others who might not have felt brave enough to do so in the past,” he said. “We f—-ing love the LGBT community. [The hot dog is] exactly what we said it is: pure awesomeness.”
The eatery is no stranger to similar controversy, WCPO reported.
It has served dishes named for other celebrities, including Lindsay Lohan and Nick Lachey, and the managers say they often create menu items based on current events.
