A suspicious package caused the evacuation of the Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island Tuesday according to law enforcement.
The scent of the package, which was left inside a locker, was picked up by a dog early in the afternoon.

The site was evacuated shortly before 1 p.m. and a bomb squad has been sent to the scene to investigate.
Tourists have been tweeting pictures throughout the day.
