Dem. Kirsten Powers: ‘Christians thrown overboard left to drown by Obama’

Obama’s indifference to the persecution of Christians in the Middle East is now coming under fire from one of the most vocal members of his own party.

Outspoken Democrat Kirsten Powers penned an article for USA Today where she said Christians were “left to drown” by Obama. It was a reference to the president’s silence on the killings of Ethiopian Christians by Muslims off the coast of Italy on Thursday.

Powers mentioned the joint news conference held by Obama and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi who also avoided calling the murders religious persecution when he said, “The problem is not a problem of (a) clash of religions.”

“As Renzi was questioned about the incident, Obama was mute on the killings. He failed to interject any sense of outrage or even tepid concern for the targeting of Christians for their faith,” she said. “If a Christian mob on a ship bound for Italy threw 12 Muslims to their death for praying to Allah, does anyone think the president would have been so disinterested?”

Powers said Obama was quick to condemn the killings of three North Carolina Muslims by an atheist in February, “But he just can’t seem to find any passion for the mass persecution of Middle Eastern Christians or the eradication of Christianity from its birthplace,” she said.

She predicted that history will remember Obama and other Western leaders who did nothing while Christians were being persecuted across the globe.

The Fox News contributor blasted Obama’s “lecturing of Christians at the National Prayer Breakfast about the centuries-old Crusades” while Christians were, at that very moment, being persecuted and killed by the Islamic State.

She lamented the murder of the Ethiopian Christians in a video released by the Islamic State Sunday in which they said they were warned to convert to Islam or pay a tax to remain Christian “but the Christians never cooperated.”

“So they kill them,” she said. “Indeed, let’s talk more about the Crusades.”
