Ben and Jerry’s controversial new flavor just crossed the line for some

Celebrated ice cream purveyors Ben and Jerry’s may have been dipping a bit too much into the fruits and nuts that make their treats so popular.

Critics are calling their latest confection nuttier than a fruitcake!

The guys are partnering with New Belgium Brewing Co. to create an ice cream-flavored beer, according to AOL.

It’s a combination of products each company already has in its line: New Belgium’s salty brown ale and Ben and Jerry’s Salted Caramel Brownie.

Watchdog groups are panning the concoction as a way to make alcohol appealing to children.

It’s nothing more than “a crass, corporate greedy move to put put a brand name like Ben & Jerry’s on a beer,” said Bruce Lee Livingtson, executive director and CEO of Alcohol Justice, according to AOL. “It’s bad for children — who will start looking at beer as the next step after ice cream.”

Others saw nothing wrong with it and disagreed:

Perhaps with spirits buoyed from kudos for the ice cream-flavored beer, the pair may consider taking it a step further.

“Ben and I have had previous experiences with substances, and I think legalizing marijuana is a wonderful thing,” Ben and Jerry’s co-founder Jerry Greenfield said in a Huffington Post interview. “It’s not my decision. If it were my decision, I’d be doing it, but fortunately we have wiser heads at the company that figure those things out.”

Häagen-Dazs, anyone?
