Comedian Sarah Silverman is apologizing for making up a big fat lie promoting “gender inequality” to push the feminist agenda.
But like most liberals, she’s claiming the lie served a bigger truth.
During a video promotion set to well-timed music, Silverman got emotional while spinning a story about the time, when as a rising star, she was paid less than a man for the same work. In the telling, Silverman identified a club owner by name, and claimed he paid her significantly less than her male counterpart Todd Barry for a comedy gig.
Silverman used the story to paint a picture of rampant gender inequality.
Only that’s all it was: a story, in her own head.
“So I went back inside and I asked the owner, Al Martin, and I said, “Al, why did you pay me $10 and you paid Todd Barry $60?” Silverman said.
She added, “If you work a job and a man is working the same job, then you should be getting paid the same.”
As it turns out, they weren’t working the same job at all. According to Martin, Silverman was a last-minute guest host while Barry had a booked job.
Martin said standard procedure was that guest hosts, regardless of gender, go unpaid. He did say that he gave Silverman $10 for cab fare, just to be nice.
So much for that.
“I did not pay you less cause of gender,” Martin wrote on Facebook. “I paid you less because Todd Barry was booked and you weren’t.
“It was a GUEST SPOT, so I gave you some car fare… funny how in your attempt to become a super hero with a noble cause, you forgot that little fact.”
Now that Silverman slandered Martin’s name, she made a weak apology in a statement to Salon.
“My regret is that I mentioned Al by name – it should have been a nameless, faceless anecdote and he has always been lovely to me,” she said.
“This is HARDLY an example of the wage gap and can only do that very true reality a terrible disservice if I were trying to make it one,” she said.
Silverman’s biggest regret, clearly, is that she wasn’t a sneakier liar.
Worse, she had the audacity to throw insults at those who would dare call her out.
“To the maniacs who want to use this as a chit against women’s issues, I ask that you please don’t,” she said.
“Because that would be super s****y.”
Maybe it would. But not as s****y as making up a lie as an example of wage inequality, then calling people “maniacs” when they call it a lie about wage inequality.
What an entitled snot.
