Comedian and talk show host Whoopi Goldberg is starting the presidential election season with a defensive warning for Republicans to quit taking potshots at Hillary.
Nice try, Whoopi, but it’s not going to happen.
Goldberg’s political lecture during “The View” on Tuesday began while talking about Sen. Marco Rubio’s announcement that he’ll be making a run to be the 2016 Republican presidential nominee.
The famously liberal show host scolded Rubio for making what she perceived as a wisecrack about Clinton’s age during his big announcement Sunday.
Rubio, a first-term Florida Republican, had called Clinton a candidate of “yesterday.” The presidential hopeful was suggesting, perhaps, the American electorate might be in the mood for something, or someone, a little more “fresh.”
“Be careful about pointing to ‘yesterday,’ because you were there yesterday – you’ve been on the scene for a little while,” Goldberg warned Rubio.
“The biggest challenge [Republicans] are going to have is, eventually you’re going to have to have a position that works for the American people.
“Find your position and make it work,” she openly challenged the GOP.
Does anyone believe Goldberg will honestly contemplate the positions that will come from any politician who has that pesky little “R” in front of their name? Not likely.
Goldberg, however, did allow the GOP some wiggle-room with her warning.
“Quit the potshots, those will come later,” Goldberg said and added, “If [Clinton] can’t get up the stairs, then you can say something.”
And Whoopi’s the one calling out Rubio for making old-people jokes? Wow.
