Up-close footage of Illinois tornado truly frightening

A man driving in Illinois had a harrowing encounter with one of nature’s deadliest phenomena.

Sam Smith was driving his truck on Interstate 39 April 9 when he came face to face with a tornado that was barreling towards him.

Because traffic was jammed behind him there was no way out, so Smith braced himself and filmed as the twister passed right in front of him, barely missing his truck.

“It looks like it’s coming right towards me,” he said nervously in the video.

Smith told the Chicago Tribune that the tornado was “way more violent than I think the video shows.”

“To be honest with you, I was freaking out inside, but what good was it going to do me?” he told the Tribune. “When it came up and I started seeing all the debris — I was like, something’s going to come through my windshield.”

“I could feel the truck lifting up on its suspension,” he added. “I thought, ‘I’m getting ready to get blown away.’ I remember thinking to myself, ‘I’m seat belted in. That’s about as good as it’s going to get for me at this point.’”

Outrage! Judge hammers white victims of armed home invasion for racism, lets criminal go free.

He said he started filming it because his son asked him too but he wishes his friend didn’t post it online because “people are nasty on the Internet.”

Although after what he just survived, he can probably handle some dumb comments on YouTube.
