British Comedian Ricky Gervais probably knew exactly what he was doing when he stirred up a whole lot of hate by tweeting a picture of a Utah hunter posing next to a freshly killed giraffe.
Gervais, an animal rights activist wrote, “What must’ve happened to you in your life to make you want to kill a beautiful animal & then lie next to it smiling?”

Predictably, the death threats toward Rebecca Francis, the hunter who shot and posed with the animal, started pouring in.
Of course, if Gervais really wanted to know the story behind the hunt, he could have used his enormous resources to track down Francis, who has been an “Extreme Huntress” competition winner and has appeared on the T.V. series “Eye of the Hunter” and asked her himself.
She could have told him what she had posted on the HuntingLife.com Facebook page about the incident:
“When I was in Africa five years ago, I was of the mindset that I would never shoot a giraffe,” Francis wrote. “I was approached at the end of my hunt with a unique circumstance. They showed me this beautiful old bull giraffe wandering alone…”
Francis wrote that old giraffe had been kicked out of his herd and was dying. At that point she was faced with two choices… let him slowly waste away, or supply the local community with much needed food and resources that come from the meat, skin and bones.
“… I chose to honor his life by providing others with his uses and I do not regret it for one second.” Francis wrote. “Once he was down there, people were waiting to take his meat. They also took his tail to make jewelry, bones to make other things, and did not waste a single part of him. “I am grateful to be part of something so good,” she wrote.
Not everyone sitting with full bellies hiding behind the safety of their personal computers cares about Francis’ side of the story. They just want revenge:
Rebecca Francis, Wow , you are heinously ugly. May you reap what you have sown. Pray that I never encounter you.

@rickygervais May that horrible woman die a lonely, painful death.

How very “hippy” of you.
@rickygervais Only a deranged heartless person will do this.

@rickygervais Maybe she’s a trophy as well? Ready to be brought home and be stuffed.

@BeaverBand drawing a comparison. I would put people who kill animals for sport and paedophiles under the same heading of “sickos”.

The hate goes on and on.
